Cat & Mick’s UK reception

Posted under News, Photo Gallery

As part of the Cat & Mick world tour (or honeymoon to be more accurate) they had a UK reception for the relatives over here that couldn’t make it to the Australian wedding. Venue was Kilworth House in Leicestershire, an old stately home that has been converted to a hotel and function venue. Photos are up in the photo gallery here: password is required though so contact me if you need one.

Some shots:

And to lower the tone, there were genuine “crappers” in the gents loos!

Weird stuff in Deutschland

Posted under News, Travel

Things that don’t translate so well to English:

First time I saw a “Stop/Go” sign on a loo. Never need to stop a flush before, though handy if your handy (mobile phone) drops down the loo.

Appropriately named hand sanitiser (?) – Spitacid®

Nuremberg

Posted under News, Travel

For almost a week I was based in Nuremberg to oversee a clinical manufacture for a product at work. Nuremberg, from what little I saw of it, is a fantasic town (city?) with old world architecture, a river running through it and a castle perched on top of the hill. As I was travelling light, I didn’t take many shots except but the few below:

Dinner Bavarian style – lots of pig knuckles, sauerkraut, dumplings & beer. This was meant to be for FIVE people: you could have fed double that number from this!

Our time in Nuremberg co-incided with the final group game of the world cup where they showed the game on the “big” screen, with perhaps a few thousand watching…

… and then celebrating as Germany went 1-nil up against Ghana. That score line though was enough to keep Germany and Ghana up and to kick out Australia and Serbia from Group C.

Am heading back in late July so will try to take some proper photos then.

Wo ist mein lederhosen?

Posted under News, Travel

Off on a busy two week work trip this Sunday. Will be overseeing a manufacture in Nuremberg, Germany next week, then back to Blighty for Cat & Mick’s UK reception. Then drive across to Liege in Belgium for a 4 day conference, followed by a short 4hr drive to Freiberg. The return journey on the Friday will take 9 hours and through 5 countries in what I hope will be a decent car.  Since work switched to Avis, I’ve only been given cruddy Kia Cee’d's

RIP Stuart

Posted under News

Our friend from SMB, Stuart Smith, passed away due to cancer today. Fortunately his passing was fairly quick – I’ve seen long drawn out suffering due to cancer and wouldn’t wish that on anyone. My lasting memory of him will be his Singstar performance of ABBA’s “Gimme Gimme Gimme” at Emma’s 30th (ahem) party – an absolutely hoot hearing a barritone asking for a “Man after midnight” :D

Godspeed Stuart.
